Tegan Kuhns

One of the better arms to make it to campus, Kuhns filled in a starter roll for the Vols in 2025, where he saw some mixed results, but flashed some electric stuff. Kuhns had a tremendous summer league showing in the cape, striking out 20 while only walking one in 13.1 dominant innings. He's got high expectations heading into his sophomore year, and should he meet them there's a real chance for a quick surge up draft boards.

Kuhns is an extremely athletic mover down the mound, with a loose and whippy arm. There's projection in his 6 foot 3 frame left, but Kuhns already has an extremely strong lower half, utilizing it to generate a ton of force into the ground.

Kuhns's pitch mix speaks for itself. There's a violent heater that's been up to 99 with extreme riding life and carry up in the zone. He'll generate whiffs at the top rail, spinning the pitch well. Kuhns's has gravitated away from his high 70's curveball in 2026, and has started showing more comfortable feel for a tighter low to mid 80's slider that looks like an above average offering. He's spinning it in the 2,500 plus range, showcasing feel for tunneling that pitch off the fastball away to righties. Probably what has shown the biggest improvement for Kuhns over the past calendar year has been his changeup, which has flashed much improved results this spring. The pitch showcases some fade away from left-handed hitters and depth when thrown well. It's generating high whiff rates early on.

Kuhns has also shown significant strides in the command direction this year aswell. He's posting by far the lowest walk rate of his career at the moment. It was expected that Kuhns would take step forwards from his freshman year, and that he has done. Now with continued strong performance throughout conference play, a mid to late first round outcome is very possible here.
